The temple of consumerism

I'm taking a photography class this semester to fill credits.

The assignment for my final project is to submit a photo essay with the theme "chaos."

So I thought—what could be more chaotic than the Mall of America on Black Friday?

I dragged my brother along with me for the expedition, since he was in town for Thanksgiving. He decided to wear a suit and carry a copy of Wealth of Nations to read when he got bored. My brother has a strange sense of humor.

Taking pictures of shopping is harder than it sounds. I was politely kicked out of three stores.

As we were leaving, we realized we had managed to spend the entire day at the mall without spending any money. Parking is free, and we brought our own water and snacks.

Here's our journey.

From the stories on the news it looked much more chaotic than it seems there. Thank goodness this day is not a Canadian tradition.

I'd like that sign which says: Inside every older person is a younger person wondering what happened.
I can definitely relate to that.

You're a good photographer! I especially love the one from the escalator showing all the three levels. Chaos indeed.

Ruthie,

I've always wanted to go to the Mall of the Americas. Thank you for a summarized view. You are very artistic, whether it be with photography or the written word...

The young lady pointing looks like she could be in high school, perhaps. Is that you?

#12 (bird's eye POV) is brilliant.

jmb: I think they deliberately chose the most chaotic-looking pictures. Much like I will for my project. The pictures here aren't all the ones I'm going to use.

I'm sort of surprised it isn't a Canadian tradition, I thought it would be...

PM: Thanks! It was surprisingly slow in the morning, but it picked up around 2 p.m.

Linda: Thank you very much. If you get a chance, you should go-- it's a lot of fun. There's an amusement park, a wedding chapel, every kind of store conceivable, a movie theater, restaurants, a Sea Adventure park thing... free parking...

Russ: No, she was a saleslady trying to herd me over to her kiosk where she was selling curling irons.

Rev: Thanks!

Great pics - well done. I like those yellow notices. I didn't know what "Black Friday" was till quite recently.

Ah fond memories of days in the mall in the US. Our biggest mall was about an hour south of where we lived in Washington, but there were lots of them. It is all so familiar. I loved the On Mastercard On Visa. Aint that the truth.

Lovely photos and yes, very chaotic.
I prefer boutiques on the High street.
